I am currently reading Simon Parkin's A Game of Birds and Wolves which is largely about WATU (Western Approaches tactical Unit) which I have talked about in other postings on this blog [1], [2]. This is a pretty interesting read (and I do recommend it), but has a somewhat jarring fault. Throughout there are minor errors when the author makes assumptions that those not familiar with naval history and related matters might make.
I think this is a generic problem of journalism. The reporting may be OK on those parts of the topic that the author has researched, but when the author strays beyond the researched what is written can be full of erroneous assumptions.
